Let’s Talk About: The Value of Attending Seminars

Three times a year LTS arranges seminars in Hobart, Launceston and Devonport . These seminars are two hours long with time at the end and during the tea break to ask specific questions. Over the last two years that I have been presenting these seminars numbers have grown. The reason that these information sessions are growing in popularity can be attributed to the content and way the information is couched. They are aimed at members who enjoy understanding the background behind what they do every time they fire up their computer. They are aimed at leaving behind the jargon and addressing the reason things are done in a certain way so that, over time, in-depth skills are acquired along with growing confidence.

The topics are chosen as a direct outcome of the survey that you answered earlier in the year in which we asked you to list, in order of importance, the topics you would like covered in the seminars this year.

This is the first of the seminars for 2010. Following the usual holiday’s photo fest engaged in by most members we will devote the first part of the seminar to the topic of handling photos. This segment will cover not only saving them, editing, creating albums, creating interesting slide shows and inserting photos in a letter, email or card and uploading them to a website and/or creating a CD.

The last part of the seminar looks at saving information from the web, both pictures and text, and how to avoid having to print everything. Hints on how to search the web effectively will also be covered.

I look forward to seeing you at the different centres and am confident that the information given at the seminar will be of genuine benefit and that it is aimed at both beginner and advanced users. The topics for the seminars are chosen from member’s requests and last year’s survey.
